Power Over Ethernet Cameras (PoE)

An Ethernet camera captures images and prepares them to be sent over an Ethernet cable. Ethernet cables have maximum data speeds and distance of transmission. Also be sure that the bandwidth and the shielding on the cable you use is a match for your build. See chart below)

Many computers have a Power over Ethernet (PoE) option on a few or all Ethernet ports. If your camera has PoE technology, the computer will deliver power and accept video of the same cable. PoE cameras eliminate the need for a separate power source. (PoE ports work the same as non-PoE ports if there no power needed)

Be sure to understand how power will be delivered over each PoE port. Total the maximum amount of power for each port and compare it to the specified total amount of power available – it likely will be a greater number.
