GMSL, GMSL2 Devices
GMSL (Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link) is a high speed serializers/deserializer (SerDes) interface. It is designed to carry multiple data streams via coaxial Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) or Shielded Parallel Pair (SPP) cable up to 15m (49ft).
The serializer on the transmitting device converts data into a serial stream and the deserializer converts the stream to parallel for processing. The interface allows for bidirectional control data, power, and 6Gbps/lane to be sent over the cable.
GMSL was introduced in 2017 with 3K video and Ethernet support, and in 2018 increased to 4K support.
When purchasing hardware be sure that the chip contained within (deserializer) is a match for the camera type (serializer) you have – GMSL or GMSL2.
