The mPCIe/SATA Slot

mPCIe is a miniature version of the traditionally known PCIe (PCI Express) slot commonly found in full size computer formats (desktop, rackmount...). It is physically the same as a miniature SATA slot -mSATA . Its versatility allows the socket to be configured with a SATA, USB, or traditional PCIe bus. It can be confusing to determine which expansion card will work in which slot.

For example, some LTE cards will “speak” USB and others SATA. It is important to know the specifications of the product you add to the slot and the characteristics of the host device. There are “daughter” boards that can be used to convert the signal in case of an incompatibility. To compound the difficulty some daughter boards are ineffective.

Consult with a product expert if you will add cards after purchase or ask a salesperson to select pretested components that will be included in the warranty of an entire system.
