The ASMB-789 uses an Intel® LGA 1851 socket and supports Intel® Core™ Ultra 9/7/5 processors with a TDP up to 125W, paired with the Intel® W880 chipset.
The board has 4 DDR5 UDIMM slots (dual channel, ECC/Non-ECC) supporting speeds of 5600*/4800/4400 MT/s, with a maximum total capacity of 192 GB. Note: 5600 MT/s is only supported with 1 DIMM per channel (2 DIMMs total).
There are 7 total PCI/PCIe slots: one PCIe x16 (Gen5), one PCIe x8 (Gen5 x16 link), and five PCIe x4 slots (Gen4). One of the x4 slots can optionally be configured as an M.2 2280 slot on the G4 SKU. There is also a dedicated M.2 2280 (PCIe Gen4 x4) connector for storage.

The G2 version (ASMB-789G2-00A1) has 2 RJ-45 LAN ports and no IPMI support. The G4 versions (ASMB-789G4-00A1 and ASMB-789G4-00A1U) have 4 RJ-45 LAN ports and include IPMI (Y). All versions share the same W880 chipset, DDR5 memory support, VGA+DP+HDMI display outputs, and 4 SATA III ports.

How-to Guides
- Locate the onboard M.2 2280 connector (PCIe Gen4 x4 link).
- Insert the M.2 2280 module into the slot at the correct angle.
- Secure the module using the M.2 device screw included in the packing list (part number 1930005673-11).
- Connect a 24-pin SSI power connector to the main board power input.
- Connect the 8-pin SSI 12V power connector to supply additional CPU power.
- Verify voltage rails (3.3V, 5V, 12V, 12V_8P, 5VSB) are within the specified power requirements before powering on.
- Determine your CPU's TDP (up to 125W supported).
- Choose from the optional Advantech CPU coolers: LGA 1700 CPU cooler for 3U/4U tower (CPU 230W at ambient 30°C), LGA 1700 cooler for 2U/4U chassis (CPU 125W), or LGA 1700 cooler for 2U/4U chassis (CPU under 65W).
- Install the proprietary ASMB-789 CPU cooler purchased from Advantech; other brands may not be compatible.
- Use the COM1 cable included in the packing list (part number 1700001788) to connect to a serial port header.
- Route the cable to the external serial port location.
- Connect your RS-232 serial device to the external port.
