Frequently Asked Questions

How many Ethernet ports does the EDX-104J have and what speeds do they support?

The EDX-104J has 5 ports, each supporting 10/100/1000 Mbps with auto-negotiation. Ports comply with IEEE 802.3 (10BASE-T), 802.3u (100BASE-TX), 802.3ab (1000BASE-T), and 802.3x (flow control).

Which ports support PoE+ and how much power can they deliver?

Ports 2 through 5 support IEEE 802.3at PoE+ PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment) output, delivering up to 25.5 W per port. The total PSE power budget is 80 W when the switch is powered via the 24/48 VDC input.

How is port 1 different from the other ports?

Port 1 operates in IEEE 802.3at PD (Powered Device) mode. It can be used to power the switch itself from an upstream PSE, rather than supplying power to a connected device. In this PD mode, the total power budget for PSE output is 25.5 W.

What are the power input options for the EDX-104J?

The EDX-104J supports dual power input: it can be powered as a PoE+ PD via port 1 (Ethernet cable from an upstream PSE), or via a 24/48 VDC input through a 3-pin terminal block. This dual power mode allows the switch to operate as either a PSE or a PD depending on the installation.

What is the operating temperature range and IP rating of the EDX-104J?

The EDX-104J is rated for fanless operation from -25°C to 70°C. It carries an IP50 housing rating.

What certifications and environmental standards does the EDX-104J meet?

The EDX-104J is CE/FCC Class A certified according to EN 50022 and EN 55024. It also meets EN 50155/50121-3-2 and EMS Level 3 requirements per EN 61000-4-2, -4-3, -4-4, -4-5, -4-6, and -4-8. It has been tested for vibration (5 Grms, 5-500 Hz, 3 axes per IEC60068-2-64) and shock (50 Grms, half-sine 11 ms per IEC60068-2-27) while operating.

What are the dimensions, weight, and mounting options for the EDX-104J?

The EDX-104J measures 40 mm (W) x 92 mm (D) x 139 mm (H) and weighs 0.5 kg. It is designed for DIN-rail mounting.

What switch features does the EDX-104J support internally?

The switch has a MAC table size of 8192 entries, 1 Mb frame buffer memory, and supports jumbo frames up to 10 KB.

What optional accessories are available for the EDX-104J?

An optional PA-280W-ET2 280W AC/DC power adapter is available, rated 24V/11.67A with 16AWG cable and cord-end terminals for the terminal block. It operates from -30°C to 60°C.

How-to Guides

Power the EDX-104J via DC input
  1. Locate the 3-pin terminal block on the switch labeled for 24V/48V DC IN.
  2. Connect a 24 or 48 VDC power source to the terminal block, observing correct polarity.
  3. The switch's total PSE power budget in this DC mode is 80 W, distributed across the PoE+ ports (ports 2-5).
  4. Optionally, use the PA-280W-ET2 280W AC/DC power adapter (24V/11.67A) with cord end terminals for the terminal block connection.
Power the EDX-104J as a PoE+ Powered Device (PD)
  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from an upstream IEEE 802.3at PSE source to port 1 (labeled PoE+ Ports (PD)).
  2. The switch will draw power via this port, with a total power budget for PSE of 25.5 W in this mode.
  3. No separate DC power connection is required when operating in this PD mode.
Mount the EDX-104J on a DIN rail
  1. Confirm the switch dimensions (40 mm W x 92 mm D x 139 mm H) fit the available DIN rail space.
  2. Attach the switch to the DIN rail using the DIN-rail mounting mechanism on the unit.
  3. Verify the unit is securely seated on the rail before connecting Ethernet and power cabling.
Connect PoE+ powered devices to ports 2-5
  1. Identify ports 2 through 5, labeled as PoE+ Ports x4 (PSE) on the unit.
  2. Connect standard RJ45 Ethernet cables from these ports to IEEE 802.3at PoE+ compliant devices (PDs).
  3. Each port can deliver up to 25.5 W to the connected PD, with power delivered on pins 1/2 (V+) and 3/6 (V-).
  4. Ensure the total power draw across all connected PoE+ devices does not exceed the switch's power budget (25.5 W in PD mode, or 80 W in DC mode).

EDX-104 series is world's first mobile surveillance unmanaged PoE+ switch combining IEEE 802.3at PSE/PD capability and fanless enclosure for IP protection. It offers five Gigabit Ethernet ports compliant with 802.3 (10BASE-T), 802.3u (100BASE-TX) and 802.3ab (1000BASE-T). Four of its ports support 802.3at PoE+ PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment) capability and can deliver up to 25.5W to PoE PD on each port.

The feature of dual power mode is what makes EDX-104 unique. It can operate as a PoE+ PD thus you can simply power it using a Ethernet cable from a PSE. Or, when PSE is not available, you can supply 24/48 VDC to make it work. The combination of PSE and PD minimizes the effort of installation and maintenance as only Ethernet cables are needs to connect everything. EDX-104 series is designed with EMS level 3 protection. Combing its -25°C to 70°C fanless operation and IP protection, EDX-104 is a mobile surveillance, simple and yet rugged ethernet switch for your industrial environments.
