Frequently Asked Questions

What I/O ports are available on the NRU-230V-AWP/NRU-240S-AWP front panel?

The front panel provides an M12 X-coded 10 Gigabit Ethernet port (backward compatible with 5Gb, 2.5Gb, and 1Gb), 4x M12 X-coded Gigabit Ethernet ports with IEEE 802.3at PoE+ (100W total power budget), 2x M12 A-coded USB 2.0 ports, 1x waterproof USB Type-C port (USB 3.2 Gen1 and alternative DisplayPort up to 3840x2160@60Hz), 2x isolated CAN 2.0 with 1x isolated DI (GPS PPS input), 1x isolated RS-485, 1x RS-232, 1x isolated DO, and 1x M12 A-coded MCU CAN/DO port for system monitoring by an automotive-grade MCU. The NRU-230V-AWP additionally has 8x FAKRA Z connectors for GMSL2 cameras on the rear panel.

What is the DC power input range and how is it wired?

The system accepts 8V to 48V DC input with reverse polarity protection and built-in ignition power control, via an M12 L-coded 5-pin connector. The maximum current per pin is 16A. Supplying a voltage over 48V will damage the system.

What is the operating temperature range of the NRU-230V-AWP/NRU-240S-AWP?

With the JAO32 or JAO64 module in 30W TDP mode, the operating temperature is -25°C to 70°C without 10GbE transmission and PoE load, or -25°C to 60°C with full function. With the JAOi (Industrial) module in 35W TDP mode, the range is -40°C to 70°C without 10GbE/PoE load, or -40°C to 60°C with full function. Under full CPU+GPU stressing, the system is rated non-throttling at 65°C (30W TDP mode), 55°C (JAO64 MAXN 60W TDP mode), and 50°C (JAOi MAXN 75W TDP mode). Storage temperature is -40°C to 85°C. For sub-zero or over 60°C operation, a wide-temperature SSD is required.

Is the system waterproof and rugged for outdoor use?

Yes. The system is rated IP66 waterproof and dustproof. It is also tested for vibration per MIL-STD-810H Method 514.8 Category 4, shock per MIL-STD-810H Method 516.8 Procedure I, and carries CE/FCC Class A EMC certification according to EN 55032 and EN 55035.

What storage and memory options are available?

The system includes 32GB or 64GB LPDDR5 memory on the Jetson AGX Orin SOM (depending on JAO32/JAO64 configuration) and 64GB eMMC 5.1 on the SOM. Expansion storage includes 1x M.2 2280 M-key NVMe socket (PCIe Gen4x2) and 2x internal SATA ports for 2.5" HDD/SSD installation.

What wireless and cellular expansion options does the system support?

The system has two full-size mini-PCIe sockets: one supporting PCIe + USB 2.0 for WiFi 6 or CAN modules, and one supporting USB 2.0 only for GNSS or 4G LTE modules. It also has one M.2 3042/3052 B-key socket (USB 3.2 Gen1 + USB 2.0) with dual micro SIM support for 4G LTE/5G NR modules.

How many cameras can the NRU-230V-AWP connect, and what types?

The NRU-230V-AWP supports up to 8x GMSL2 automotive cameras via FAKRA Z connectors, available in configurations of 8x AC-IMX390 (2MP@30FPS), 8x AC-ISX031 (3MP@30FPS), or 8x AC-IMX490 (5MP@30FPS). It also supports 4x PoE+ GbE ports for industrial GigE or IP cameras. Note this GMSL2 camera support is exclusive to the NRU-230V-AWP; the NRU-240S-AWP does not include the FAKRA connectors.

What are the dimensions, weight, and mounting options?

The system measures 225mm (W) x 194-195mm (D) x 88.5-89.5mm (H), depending on whether rubber feet are included, and weighs 4.4kg excluding the wall-mount bracket. A wall-mount bracket is included as standard mounting.

What is ignition power control and how does it work?

Ignition power control is an MCU-based feature for in-vehicle use that monitors the ignition (IGN) signal and turns the system on/off based on configurable power-on and power-off delays. It supports low battery detection (shuts down if input voltage drops below 11V for 12VDC or 22V for 24VDC systems for 60 seconds), guarded delay cancellation, system hard-off after 10 minutes if soft shutdown fails, and a smart off-delay mode. Standby power consumption while waiting for the ignition signal is less than 2mW. The system offers 16 operation modes (0-15) with different power-on/power-off delay combinations, configurable via a rotary switch.

How-to Guides

Install an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD
  1. Disassemble the system enclosure as described in the enclosure disassembly procedure.
  2. Insert the M.2 NVMe module into the M.2 2280 M-key slot at a 45° angle.
  3. Gently press the module down and secure it with an M2.5 P-head screw.
  4. Remove the thermal pad's protective film at the bottom of the enclosure panel for the NVMe module.
  5. Reinstall the enclosure when done.
Install a 2.5" HDD/SSD
  1. Remove the indicated bottom panel screws.
  2. Place a 2.5" HDD/SSD into the drive mount, noting the orientation of the drive's connector relative to the panel, and secure it with four screws.
  3. Connect the SATA cable to the connector.
  4. Repeat the steps if installing a second drive.
  5. Place the panel back onto the enclosure and secure the screws at a torque range of 6.3-7.7 kgf-cm in ascending order to complete installation.
Install a mini-PCIe module
  1. Disassemble the system enclosure.
  2. If installing a mini-PCIe module with 4G/3G that requires a SIM card, push the SIM slot holder open and place the SIM into the slot, then flip the holder back and push to lock it in.
  3. Insert the gold finger end of the mini-PCIe card at a 45° angle into the slot, gently push the other end down onto the motherboard, and secure it with a screw.
  4. If an antenna is needed, clip the IPEX-to-SMA cable onto the module and secure the antenna to the side panel.
  5. Reinstall the enclosure when done.
Wire the DC power input and ignition signal
  1. Confirm the DC power source is within 8V to 48V; supplying over 48V will damage the system.
  2. Connect the vehicle battery positive line (12V for sedan, 24V for bus/truck) to V+.
  3. Connect the vehicle battery negative/GND line to GND.
  4. Connect the ACC line to IGN.
  5. Ensure the DC power source and IGN signal share the same ground.
Install the wall mount bracket
  1. Remove the four rubber stands at the bottom of the enclosure.
  2. Take the wall mount bracket and four M4 screws from the accessory box and fix the bracket to the bottom of the system enclosure.
  3. Place the system on a flat surface portion of the wall and secure it with four M4 screws, orienting the heatsink fins perpendicular to the ground for better heat dissipation.
