How-to Guides

Install the PCIe-NPL54 into a host computer
  1. Save and close all work in progress on the host computer.
  2. Power off the system and unplug the power cable.
  3. Refer to the host computer's user manual and disassemble the chassis side panel.
  4. Locate the x4 PCIe slot, or a compatible spare x16/x8 PCIe slot.
  5. Align and insert the PCIe-NPL54's gold finger into the PCIe slot, making sure the card's panel is properly inserted into the enclosure hinge.
  6. Secure the card to the chassis with a screw.
  7. Refer to the host computer's user manual and reinstall the system's chassis panel to complete installation.
Configure DIP switches SW2 and SW6 for frame synchronization
  1. Before installing the card into the host computer, decide on the desired frame sync mode: freerun, 20 FPS, 30 FPS, or 60 FPS synchronization.
  2. Use SW2 switches #1 and #2 to select 60 FPS, 20 FPS, or 30 FPS framesync (Off/Off gives 30 FPS depending on #2 setting).
  3. Use SW2 switch #3 to set phase shift: On for 25% phase shift alignment across cameras, Off for 0% phase shift.
  4. Use SW2 switch #4 to align the PPS input with frame sync (On = aligned, Off = not aligned).
  5. Use SW6 switch #2 to force freerun mode (On), overriding SW2 #1 and #2, or leave Off for default frame sync behavior depending on SW2 settings.
  6. Confirm the selected frame sync mode is compatible with the CMOS characteristics/firmware of the connected cameras.
Set the RSW1 rotary switch for your camera model
  1. Before installing the card, identify the GMSL2 camera model(s) you will connect.
  2. Set RSW1 to the rotary position matching your camera model, for example position 0 for 4x AC-IMX390 (fixed 30 FPS), position 4 for 4x AC-AR0233, or position 14 for 4x STURDeCAM31 (fixed 30 FPS).
  3. For rotary position 10, note the fixed port-to-camera mapping: ports 0 and 1 support 8MP cameras, ports 2 and 3 support 3MP cameras, limited to 2x 8MP + 1x 3MP or 1x 8MP + 2x 3MP due to bandwidth limitations.
  4. Verify the supported frame sync FPS options for the selected rotary position before use.
Wire the 8-pin terminal block for GPS PPS and RS-232
  1. Identify the 8-pin terminal block on the panel side of the PCIe-NPL54.
  2. Connect pin 1 (MCU_TX) and pin 2 (MCU_RX) for the RS-232 debug connection to the onboard MCU, with pins 3 and 4 as GND.
  3. Connect pin 5 (PPS_IN_H) and pin 6 (PPS_IN_L) to the isolated GPS PPS input source.
