Frequently Asked Questions
The POC-700-FT front panel provides 4x Gigabit Ethernet ports (Intel I350-AM4, PoE+ on port #1~4), 4x USB 3.2 Gen2 ports with screw-lock, 1x DisplayPort++ (up to 4096 x 2160), and 1x HDMI 1.4b (up to 3840 x 2160 @ 30Hz). The DIO/COM panel adds 1x software-programmable RS-232/422/485 port (COM1), 3x 3-wire RS-232 ports or 1x RS-422/485 port (COM2/3/4), and 4-channel isolated digital input plus 4-channel isolated digital output.
The system accepts 8 to 35V DC via a 3-pin pluggable terminal block. A separate 3-pin terminal block is provided for remote control and PWR LED output. Supplying voltage over 35V will damage the system.
The POC-700-FT operates from -25°C to 60°C and can be stored from -40°C to 85°C, with 10%~90% non-condensing humidity tolerance. Note that sub-zero operation requires a wide-temperature storage device, and the unit was tested mounted on an aluminum panel to simulate in-cabinet conditions. It is rated for MIL-STD-810H vibration (Method 514.8, Category 4) and shock (Method 516.8, Procedure I), and meets CE/FCC Class A EMC requirements per EN 55032 and EN 55035.
The system supports up to 16GB DDR5-4800 SODIMM memory (one socket) and includes one M.2 2280 M-key slot (PCIe Gen3 x1, also supports SATA signal) for NVMe or SATA SSD storage. It also has a full-size mini-PCIe socket with an internal micro SIM socket for wireless or CAN bus modules.
Neousys has tested the system with Microsoft Windows 10 LTSC 2021 (x64), Microsoft Windows 11 IoT Enterprise 22H2 64-bit, and Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS (or other Linux distributions with kernel version 5.19 or later). For Linux, users may need to manually compile and install drivers for the Intel graphics or Ethernet controller if not embedded in the kernel.
The POC-715-FT/POC-712-FT measures 175.8mm (W) x 115.5mm (D) x 51.65mm (H) and weighs 1.2kg. Standard mounting is wall-mount; the manual also documents mounting the flattop heatsink directly to a flat metallic surface or using optional mounting brackets.
The system has a full-size mini-PCIe socket with an internal micro SIM socket that accommodates wireless modules such as WiFi, LTE/5G, or CAN bus devices. Three SMA antenna openings on the DIO/COM panel are reserved for antenna installation when using these wireless modules.
POC-715-FT uses the Intel Alder Lake Core i3-N305 processor (8C/8T, 1.8/3.8 GHz, 15W TDP) with integrated UHD Graphics (32EUs). POC-712-FT uses the Intel Atom x7425E processor (4C/4T, 1.5/3.4 GHz, 12W TDP) with integrated UHD Graphics (24EUs). Both share the same memory, I/O, storage, and mechanical specifications.
Yes. The system provides four IEEE 802.3at PoE+ ports, each delivering up to 25W to a powered device. Software function APIs (GetStatusPoEPort, EnablePoEPort, DisablePoEPort) let you check status and turn each port's PoE power on or off individually, useful for power device fault recovery or reset.
Yes. The system includes a hardware watchdog timer (WDT) that can reset the system if not periodically reset by software. BIOS settings let you configure a WDT timeout for booting, and a Neousys driver package (WDT_DIO_Setup.exe) provides function APIs (InitWDT, SetWDT, StartWDT, ResetWDT, StopWDT) for Windows 10 x64.
How-to Guides
- Disassemble the system enclosure to expose the motherboard.
- Locate the SO-DIMM slot on the motherboard once the enclosure and heat spreader are removed.
- Insert the gold-finger end of the SO-DIMM at a 45-degree angle into the slot and gently push it down until it clips in.
- Remove the protective film on the thermal pad.
- Secure the DRAM/M.2 heat spreader onto the side of the system heatsink.
- Reinstall the enclosure.
- Disassemble the system enclosure.
- Locate the M.2 2280 M-key slot once the enclosure and heat spreader are removed.
- Insert the M.2 SSD into the slot at a 45-degree angle.
- Gently push it down towards the motherboard and secure it with the supplied screw.
- Remove the protective film on the thermal pads before reinstalling the heat spreader.
- Secure the heat spreader with its two screws.
- Reinstall the enclosure.
- Disassemble the system enclosure to locate the mini-PCIe and SIM slots.
- If installing a 3G/4G module requiring a SIM, push the SIM slot holder open and place the SIM card into the slot, then flip the holder closed and lock it in.
- Insert the mini-PCIe module's gold finger at a 45-degree angle into the socket, press it down, and secure it with a screw.
- Clip the mini-PCIe module's antenna cable onto the module (refer to the module's manual for cable connection).
- Remove one of the antenna covers from the enclosure.
- Secure the SMA antenna connector, reinstall the enclosure, and attach the external SMA antenna.
- Do not remove the clear film on the thermal pad.
- Note the distances between the screw holes on the flattop heatsink.
- Find a flat spot on a metallic surface (e.g. inside an enclosure wall), position the system approximately at the center, and secure it with screws.
- Alternatively, use the optional mounting brackets: align the flattop heatsink contact area with the bracket, secure the system using the indicated screw holes, then mount the bracket assembly to the metallic surface.
- Press F2 when the system boots up to enter the BIOS setup utility.
- Go to
Advanced>Peripheral Configuration. - Set the
Set COM1 Mode asoption to RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 as desired. - Optionally set the
Slew Rateto High for long-distance RS-422/485 transmission, and configureRS-422/485 Terminationaccording to your wiring. - Press F10 to save the setting and exit.
The POC-700-FT is a variant of Neousys’ acclaimed POC-700 series, featuring a unique flattop heatsink design that allows it to be applied to other categories of applications. The large thermal conduction area of the flattop heatsink helps effectively transfer heat to the outer surface. It makes the POC-700-FT particularly applicable for installation inside a sealed enclosure, where airflow is limited.
The POC-700-FT series is equipped with an Intel Core i3-N305 8-core/ 8-thread processor, along with 32EUs UHD Graphics or an Atom® x7425E 4-core/4-thread processor with 24EUs UHD Graphics. Both options are optimized for AI inference tasks via Intel OpenVINOTM. The system supports DDR5-4800 memory and includes an M.2 2280 M key NVMe slot for fast disk access. It also has four USB 3.2 Gen2 ports and four GigE PoE+ ports with screw-lock mechanisms, ensuring reliable connections for Ethernet/ USB cameras. POC-700-FT also offers COM ports, isolated DIO for monitoring and controlling devices, and a mini-PCIe slot that accommodates wireless modules such as WiFi, LTE/5G, or CAN bus devices.
The flattop heatsink not only facilitates in-cabinet thermal dissipation but also reduces the machine's overall size by 20% for confined spaces. It offers an excellent solution for customers who want fanless yet efficient thermal conduction when placing the machine in a cabinet. Combining multiple Ethernets and rich I/O functions, POC-700-FT is suitable for deployment in challenging environments, such as oil/ gas, mining, and those requiring dust and water resistance.
