Frequently Asked Questions

What are the I/O ports available on the POC-764VR?

The POC-764VR provides 4x Gigabit Ethernet ports (Intel I350-AM4, port #1-4) with IEEE 802.3at PoE+, plus 1x 2.5Gb Ethernet port (Intel I226-IT, port #5). It also has 4x USB 3.2 Gen2 ports with screw-lock, 1x DisplayPort++ (up to 4096x2160), 1x HDMI 1.4b (up to 3840x2160 @30Hz), 1x software-programmable RS-232/422/485 port (COM1), 3x 3-wire RS-232 ports or 1x RS-422/485 port (COM2/3/4), and 4-channel isolated digital input plus 4-channel isolated digital output.

What power input does the POC-764VR require?

The system accepts 8V to 35V DC input through a 3-pin pluggable terminal block with screw-clamp connections. This terminal block also supports an ignition (IGN) signal input for vehicle power control. Supplying more than 35V DC will damage the system.

What is the operating temperature range of the POC-764VR?

According to the product datasheet, the POC-764VR operates from -10°C to 70°C with the optional fan kit, or -10°C to 55°C without the fan kit. Storage temperature is -40°C to 85°C. Note that the user manual lists a wider range of -25°C to 70°C with the fan kit installed. For sub-zero or above-55°C (or above-60°C per the manual) operation, a wide-temperature SSD is required.

Does the POC-764VR carry any certifications?

The system is rated CE/FCC Class A according to EN 55032 and EN 55035. It also meets MIL-STD-810H Method 514.8 Category 4 for vibration and Method 516.8 Procedure I for shock.

What storage and memory expansion options does the POC-764VR support?

The system supports up to 16GB of DDR5-4800 SDRAM in one SO-DIMM socket. For storage, it has 1x M.2 2280 M-key socket (PCIe Gen3 x1, also supports SATA signal) for an NVMe or M.2 SATA SSD, and 2x internal SATA ports for 2.5" SSDs supporting hardware RAID 0/1/JBOD. In RAID 1 mode, the 2.5" drives support hot-swap functionality.

Does the POC-764VR support wireless or cellular connectivity?

Yes. The system has 2x full-size mini-PCIe sockets (one on the motherboard, one on the MezIO module) with an internal micro SIM socket, allowing installation of WiFi, LTE/5G, or CAN bus modules. There are reserved SMA antenna openings on the panel for external antenna connection.

What operating systems and drivers does the POC-764VR support?

Neousys has tested the system with Microsoft Windows 10 LTSC 2021 (x64), Microsoft Windows 11 IoT Enterprise 22H2 64-bit, and Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS or other distributions with kernel version 5.19 or later. For Linux, users may need to manually compile and install drivers for the Intel graphics or Ethernet controller if not already included in the kernel. Drivers, including the Watchdog Timer/DIO driver package, are available for download from Neousys.

What are the dimensions, weight, and mounting options for the POC-764VR?

The system measures 175.8mm (W) x 115.5mm (D) x 67.9mm (H) and weighs 1.45 kg. It supports DIN-rail mounting as standard, with optional horizontal or vertical wall-mount brackets available.

Can PoE ports be individually turned on or off?

Yes. The system offers a PoE On/Off Control API (GetStatusPoEPort, EnablePoEPort, DisablePoEPort) that lets you manually enable or disable power on each of the four 802.3at PoE+ ports, which is useful for power device fault recovery or resetting a connected camera.

How-to Guides

Install a 2.5" HDD/SSD in RAID configuration
  1. Locate the 2.5" drive tray positions and their thumb screws on the front panel.
  2. Turn the thumb screw anti-clockwise and pull the tray out of the I/O panel.
  3. Place the disk drive in the tray with the SATA connectors facing up and toward the system, then secure it with four flathead screws (two per side).
  4. Insert the tray back into the enclosure on a level plane (not at an angle) so it seats properly under the internal hinges.
  5. Turn the thumb screw clockwise to secure the tray.
  6. Repeat for the second drive if installing two drives.
  7. Set the desired RAID mode (RAID 0, RAID 1, or JBOD) using the internal DIP switches, then configure via BIOS SATA Configuration menu.
Install a DDR5 SO-DIMM memory module
  1. Disassemble the system enclosure (remove front I/O panel screws, rear panel screws, and DIO/COM port panel hex bolts, then separate the panels).
  2. Remove the screws securing the MezIO module and separate it from the motherboard.
  3. Remove the screws securing the DRAM/M.2 heat spreader and separate it from the motherboard/heatsink.
  4. Locate the SO-DIMM slot on the motherboard.
  5. Insert the gold-finger end of the SO-DIMM at a 45° angle into the slot and gently push down until it clips in.
  6. Remove the protective film on the thermal pad, then reinstall the DRAM/M.2 heat spreader.
  7. Reinstall the MezIO module and the enclosure panels.
Install an M.2 2280 M-Key NVMe SSD
  1. Disassemble the system enclosure to access the internal components.
  2. Locate the M.2 2280 M-key slot once the enclosure and heat spreader are removed.
  3. Insert the M.2 SSD into the slot at a 45° angle.
  4. Gently push the SSD down toward the motherboard and secure it with the supplied screw.
  5. Remove the protective film on the thermal pad, then reinstall the heat spreader and secure it with its two screws.
  6. Reinstall the enclosure.
Install a mini-PCIe module with SIM card and antenna
  1. Disassemble the system enclosure to access the mini-PCIe sockets (on the motherboard and on the MezIO module).
  2. If installing a 3G/4G module requiring a SIM, push the SIM slot holder in the indicated direction, flip it open, and place the SIM card in the slot, then flip the holder closed and push it to lock the SIM in place.
  3. Insert the mini-PCIe module's gold-finger connector at a 45° angle into the socket, press down gently, and secure it with a screw.
  4. Clip on the module's antenna cable per the module's own manual.
  5. Remove one of the antenna covers from the enclosure and secure the SMA antenna connector.
  6. Reinstall the enclosure and attach the external SMA antenna.
Wire the ignition power control input
  1. Connect the vehicle Battery+ line (12V for sedan, 24V for bus/truck) to the V+ terminal on the 3-pin pluggable terminal block.
  2. Connect the vehicle Battery-/GND line to the GND terminal.
  3. Connect the vehicle ACC line to the IGN terminal.
  4. Ensure the DC power source and IGN signal share the same ground. The IGN input accepts 8V to 35V DC; do not exceed 35V DC.
  5. Select the desired ignition operation mode (0-14) using the ignition rotary switch on the reserved punch-out panel to configure power-on/power-off delay behavior.
  6. In Windows, set "When I press the power button" to "Shut down" so the ignition control function correctly detects a completed shutdown instead of triggering a hard power-off after 10 minutes.
