Frequently Asked Questions
SEMIL-2007 provides 2x 10GbE (Intel X550-AT2, with Wake-on-LAN), 4x 2.5GbE PoE+ (Intel I226-IT), and 1x GbE (Intel I219-LM, with WoL), all via M12 X-coded connectors. SEMIL-2008 adds an extra 2.5GbE port for up to 8 Ethernet ports total. The 4 PoE+ ports are IEEE 802.3at compliant and deliver up to 25.5W per port, with a 100W total power budget for the system.
The SEMIL-2007/2008 accepts 8V to 48V DC input with reverse polarity protection via an M12 L-coded connector, and includes built-in ignition power control using an IGN/GND signal on the same connector. Maximum power consumption (tested with an i9-13900E CPU) is approximately 114-119W in 35W TDP mode and 151-157W in 65W TDP mode, depending on input voltage.
With a 35W CPU, the system operates fanless from -40°C to 70°C. With a CPU rated 65W or higher, it operates -40°C to 70°C when configured in 35W TDP mode, or -40°C to 60°C when configured in 65W TDP mode. Storage temperature is -40°C to 85°C, with 10%-90% non-condensing humidity. The system is rated IP69K for dust/water ingress, complies with MIL-STD-810H for shock (516.8 Procedure I) and vibration (514.8C-IV Category 4), and meets CE/FCC Class A EMC requirements per EN 55032 & EN 55035.
The system supports up to 128GB DDR5 4800 SDRAM across two SODIMM slots (ECC/non-ECC on SEMIL-2008, non-ECC on SEMIL-2007). For storage, it has 2x internal SATA ports for 2.5" HDD/SSD supporting RAID 0/1, plus 1x M.2 2280 M-key socket (PCIe Gen4x4) for an NVMe SSD.
The system includes 3x full-size mini-PCIe sockets with SIM slot support, 1x M.2 2242/3052 B-key socket with dual SIM slots for a 5G/4G module, and 1x M.2 2230 E-key socket for a Wi-Fi module (SEMIL-2007 only; not listed for SEMIL-2008). Mini-PCIe modules can add features such as 5G/4G, Wi-Fi, GPS, CAN bus, or an analog frame grabber.
Yes. The system has 2x isolated CAN 2.0 ports supporting SocketCAN in Linux (CAN2.0A and CAN2.0B up to 1Mbps). It also provides 2x isolated 3-wire RS-232 ports (COM1/COM2) and 1x isolated 3-wire RS-232 (COM3) plus 1x RS-422/485 port (COM4).
The SEMIL-2007/2008 measures 220mm (W) x 310mm (D) x 90.5mm (H), excluding the rack-mount bracket, and weighs 6kg. It supports wall-mounting (standard) and rack-mounting (optional accessory).
Neousys has tested Microsoft Windows 10 LTSC 2021 (x64) and Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS, 22.04 LTS, 22.04.1 LTS (or other distributions with kernel version 5.15 or later). On Linux, users may need to manually compile and install drivers for the Intel graphics or I226 GbE controller if not already included in the kernel. Drivers are available for download from Neousys, and a separate WDT_DIO driver package (v2.3.1.9 or later) is required for watchdog timer and PoE on/off control functions.
The system offers 2x USB 2.0 ports (M12 A-coded) and 2x Type-C USB 3.2 Gen1x1 (5Gbps) ports. The Type-C ports support a DisplayPort alternative mode (shared with USB), allowing video output up to 3840x2160 (4K) resolution.
How-to Guides
- Disconnect all cables and shut down the system.
- Turn the system upside-down and place it on a flat, sturdy surface.
- Unscrew the panel screws (indicated in blue) in descending order and gently lift the panel.
- If hard drives are installed, disconnect the SATA/power connector by pulling on the connector body, not the cable.
- Locate the M.2 2280 M-key slot underneath the heat-spreader and remove the heat-spreader screws.
- Insert the NVMe SSD module at a 45-degree angle, press down, and secure it with a screw.
- Remove the protective film on the thermal pad if installing for the first time, then reinstall the heat-spreader.
- Ensure the O-ring is properly seated in the groove, tuck cables back into the enclosure, and replace the bottom panel.
- Secure the panel screws at a torque of 6.3-7.7 kgf-cm in ascending order to complete installation.
- Identify the mini-PCIe slots and their respective SIM slots.
- If installing a 5G/4G mini-PCIe module, install the SIM card first by releasing the SIM holder, placing the SIM, and securing the holder.
- Insert the mini-PCIe module into the slot at a 45-degree angle, press down, and secure it with a screw.
- Refer to the module's manual to connect the antenna. Note that SMA antenna installation may require returning the unit to an authorized SEMIL distributor to retain waterproof rating.
- Ensure the O-ring is seated properly, tuck cables back in, and replace the bottom panel.
- Secure the panel screws at a torque of 6.3-7.7 kgf-cm in ascending order.
- Connect the vehicle's Battery+ line (12V for sedan, 24V for bus/truck) to the V+ pin on the M12 L-coded DC-in connector.
- Connect the vehicle's Battery-/GND line to the GND pin.
- Connect the vehicle's ACC (accessory) line to the IGN pin.
- Verify DC input voltage is within the supported range before connecting: SEMIL-2007/2008 supports up to 48V. Supplying voltage above the maximum will damage the system.
- In BIOS, go to
Power>Ignition Power Controland set the IGN Operation Mode to ATX, Auto-on, or IGN with your desired power-on/power-off delay settings. - In Windows, set "When I press the power button" to "Shut down" (instead of the default sleep) so the ignition control function recognizes a completed shutdown.
- Install at least two hard drives or SSDs in the system.
- Enter BIOS setup (press F2 at boot), go to
Advanced>System Agent (SA) Configuration>VMD setup menu, and enable the VMD controller. - Press F10 to save and reboot. When the system reboots, press F3 to enter the Device Manager configuration utility.
- Select
Intel Rapid Storage Technology, then chooseCreate RAID Volume. - Name the volume, select RAID Level (RAID-0 or RAID-1), select the disks, set stripe size (RAID-0 only) and capacity, then select
Create Volume. - To install Windows on the RAID volume, prepare a bootable Windows USB drive containing the unzipped "f6vmdflpy-x64" driver files.
- During Windows installation, select "Load Driver," browse to the driver folder, and select the "Intel RST VMD Controller 467F" driver.
- The RAID volume will appear as unallocated space; continue with standard Windows installation.
- For wall-mounting: remove the four brackets and sixteen screws from the accessory box, then secure a bracket to each of the four designated mounting locations on the enclosure using the provided screws.
- For rack-mounting: take the two brackets, two grips, and eight screws from the kit. Secure a bracket to each side of the enclosure with the provided screws.
- Optionally attach the grip to the rack-mount bracket by matching it to the bracket openings and securing with the M3 screws provided.
