Frequently Asked Questions

What camera and network connectivity options does the NRU-160-AWP offer?

The series comes in two models. The NRU-161V-AWP supports up to 6x GMSL2 automotive cameras via waterproof FAKRA Z connectors, with pre-built drivers for IMX390, ISX031, and IMX490 CMOS sensors, plus 1x Gigabit Ethernet port. The NRU-162S-AWP instead provides 4x PoE+ Gigabit Ethernet ports (IEEE 802.3at, 50W total power budget) via M12 X-coded connectors for IP or industrial GigE cameras, plus 1x additional Gigabit Ethernet port for data transmission with other computers or LiDAR.

What is the DC power input range and consumption behavior?

The system accepts 8V to 35V DC input via an M12 A-coded, 5-pin connector (IGN/GND/V+), with built-in ignition power control. Note the required input range narrows as system load increases: 8V-35V under 60W load, 12V-35V between 60W-96W, and 20V-35V between 96W-160W. Maximum current input is 4A per pin.

What is the operating temperature range and what certifications does it carry?

The NRU-160-AWP operates from -25°C to 70°C with passive cooling (20W TDP mode), and is rated non-throttling at 70°C in 20W TDP mode, or at 60°C in 25W TDP mode (Orin NX MAXN). Storage temperature is -40°C to 85°C. The enclosure is IP66 waterproof and dustproof, and is tested to MIL-STD-810H (vibration Method 514.8 Category 4; shock Method 516.8 Procedure I). It complies with CE/FCC Class A per EN 55032 & EN 55035; the NRU-162S-AWP additionally meets EN 50121-3 (EN 50155:2017, Clause 13.4.8). For sub-zero or over-60°C operation, a wide-temperature HDD or SSD is required.

What storage, memory, and expansion options are available?

The system uses an NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX or Orin Nano SOM with 16GB/8GB LPDDR5 @3200MHz (Orin NX) or 8GB/4GB LPDDR5 @2133MHz (Orin Nano) on-module memory. Storage is provided by 1x M.2 2242 M-key socket (PCIe Gen3 x1) for an NVMe SSD, shipped pre-installed. Expansion includes 1x full-size mini-PCIe socket (PCIe + USB 2.0) for modules such as WiFi/CAN/COM, and 1x M.2 3042/3052 B-key socket (USB 3.2 Gen1 + USB 2.0) with dual micro SIM support for LTE/5G modules.

What operating system does the NRU-160-AWP ship with?

The system ships with JetPack 5.x pre-installed as a turnkey solution. It can be reflashed with a Neousys-provided system image using a host machine and a USB Type-A/Type-C to Type-C cable, similar to the Jetson Orin NX Developer Kit reflash process.

What are the dimensions, weight, and mounting options?

The system measures 225 mm (W) x 136 mm (D) x 55 mm (H), excluding the wall-mount bracket, and weighs 3.0 kg excluding wall-mount hardware. Standard mounting options are a VESA 75 mount and a wall-mount bracket kit, which is included in the standard accessory package.

Does the NRU-160-AWP support cellular or wireless connectivity?

Yes. The system has one M.2 3042/3052 B-key socket with dual micro SIM support for LTE/5G modules, and one full-size mini-PCIe socket that can accept off-the-shelf WiFi modules. Note that installing wireless modules requires SMA antenna holes in the enclosure; if added after initial purchase, contact Neousys or an authorized dealer for a compatible panel to maintain the IP66 rating.

What is the difference between the NRU-161V-AWP and NRU-162S-AWP?

The NRU-161V-AWP supports up to 6x GMSL2 automotive cameras via FAKRA Z connectors. The NRU-162S-AWP instead provides 4x PoE+ Gigabit Ethernet ports for IP/industrial GigE cameras, with a 50W total PoE+ power budget, plus EN 50121-3 EMC certification which the NRU-161V-AWP does not carry. Both share the same processor options, memory, internal I/O, dimensions, and environmental ratings.

What is ignition power control and how does it work?

Ignition power control is an MCU-based feature for in-vehicle use that monitors a vehicle's ignition (ACC) signal and turns the system on or off according to configurable power-on/power-off delays. It supports low-battery detection (shutdown if input drops below 11V for 12VDC or 22V for 24VDC systems for 60 seconds), a system hard-off after a 10-minute timeout if a normal shutdown fails, and 16 selectable operation modes via a rotary switch, with Mode F as the default.

How-to Guides

Install a mini-PCIe module
  1. Disassemble the system enclosure to access the internal expansion area.
  2. Locate the mini-PCIe slot once the enclosure has been removed.
  3. Insert the mini-PCIe card at a 45 degree angle and secure it with a screw.
  4. Clip the IPEX-to-SMA cable onto the module and secure the antenna to the front or rear panel (contact Neousys or an authorized dealer for a compatible waterproof antenna panel if not ordered with the module).
  5. Reinstall the heatspreader and secure with the indicated screws.
  6. Reinstall the enclosure.
Install an M.2 B-key 4G/5G module with SIM card
  1. Disassemble the system enclosure.
  2. Locate the M.2 3042/3052 B-key slot and dual SIM slots; use the provided copper standoff at the appropriate mounting hole for an M.2 2242/3042 or M.2 3052 module.
  3. If your module requires a SIM card, push the SIM slot holder to the OPEN position, flip it open, and place the SIM into the slot.
  4. Flip the holder back over the SIM card and push it to the LOCK position.
  5. Insert the M.2 B-key module at a 45 degree angle and secure it with a screw.
  6. Clip the IPEX-to-SMA cable onto the module and secure the antenna to the side panel.
  7. Reinstall the heatspreader and secure with the indicated screws.
  8. Reinstall the enclosure.
Wire DC power and the ignition signal
  1. Confirm the DC source is within 8V to 35V before connecting; supplying over 35V will damage the system.
  2. Connect the vehicle battery + line (12V for sedan, 24V for bus/truck) to the V+ pin.
  3. Connect the vehicle battery -/GND line to the GND pin.
  4. Connect the vehicle ACC line to the IGN pin.
  5. Ensure the DC power source and IGN signal share the same ground.
  6. Use the internal rotary switch (accessible after disassembling the enclosure) to select the desired ignition operation mode (0-15); the default is Mode F.
Mount the system to a wall
  1. Remove the four screws with rubber standoffs from the enclosure.
  2. Attach the two wall-mount brackets using the M4 screws provided in the accessory kit.
  3. Secure the system to the wall or another sturdy flat surface using the brackets.
  4. Orient the system so the heatsink fins run vertically for optimal heat dissipation.
Reflash the system via the USB Type-C port
  1. Remove the screws behind the port cover to access the Type-C port used for reflashing/recovery.
  2. Connect a USB Type-A/Type-C or Type-C to Type-C cable between the system and a host machine, and put the system into recovery mode.
  3. Follow the Neousys-provided recovery/reflash procedure to load the system image.
  4. Disconnect the Type-C cable when finished.
  5. Reinstall the port cover in the specified orientation and torque it to 2.7-3.3 kgf to maintain the IP66 rating.
