Frequently Asked Questions
Both models share the same 10.1" touch panel, Jetson Orin NX/Nano SoM, dimensions, and DC input. They differ in camera/network connectivity: the NRU-171V-PPC provides 6x waterproof GMSL2 FAKRA Z connectors for automotive cameras (IMX390, ISX031, or IMX490 sensors), plus 1x Gigabit Ethernet port. The NRU-172S-PPC provides 4x PoE+ GbE ports (Intel I350-AM4, 50W total power budget) for IP or industrial GigE cameras, plus 1 additional waterproof GbE port for connecting to an external computer or LiDAR.
Both models include: 2x USB 2.0 ports via M12 A-coded connector, 1x USB Type-C port (under a service door, used for system flashing and OTG), 1x RS-232 port via M12 A-coded connector, 1x CAN FD port via M12 A-coded connector, and 1x isolated GPS PPS input via M12 A-coded connector. The NRU-171V-PPC adds 6x FAKRA Z GMSL2 camera connectors and 1x GbE port. The NRU-172S-PPC adds 4x PoE+ GbE ports plus 1x GbE port (Port 0).
The system accepts 8V to 35V DC input via a 5-pin M12 A-coded connector (IGN/GND/V+), with built-in ignition power control. The required DC input range varies with system load: 8V-35V under 60W load, 12V-35V between 60W-96W load, and 20V-35V between 96W-160W load. Maximum current is 4A per pin. Supplying voltage over 35V will damage the system.
The NRU-170-PPC operates from -25°C to 60°C with passive cooling (MAXN TDP mode), and does not throttle at 60°C under full CPU+GPU load in 25W TDP mode (Orin NX MAXN). Storage temperature is -40°C to 85°C. For sub-zero or over-60°C operation, a wide-temperature HDD or SSD is required. The unit is IP66 rated and certified to CE/FCC Class A (EN 55032 & EN 55035); the NRU-172S-PPC additionally carries EN 50121-3 (EN 50155:2017, Clause 13.4.8). It is also tested to MIL-STD-810H for vibration (Method 514.8, Category 4) and shock (Method 516.8, Procedure I).
The system uses 16GB/8GB LPDDR5 memory on-SOM with the Jetson Orin NX, or 8GB/4GB LPDDR5 with the Jetson Orin Nano (no eMMC). Storage is provided by a pre-installed M.2 2242 M-key NVMe SSD (PCIe Gen3 x1, up to 8Gbps). Expansion includes 1x full-size mini-PCIe socket (PCIe + USB 2.0) for CAN/COM/WiFi modules, and 1x M.2 3042/3052 B-key socket (USB 3.2 Gen1 + USB2.0) with dual micro SIM support for 4G LTE/5G NR modules.
Yes. The mini-PCIe socket accepts off-the-shelf modules such as WiFi or GPS. The M.2 3042/3052 B-key socket, with dual micro SIM slots, supports 4G LTE/5G NR communication modules. Note that SMA antenna installation requires a customized enclosure panel, so if a wireless module is added after initial purchase, you must contact Neousys/an authorized dealer for the compatible panel.
The NRU-170-PPC measures 257 mm (W) x 65 mm (D) x 176 mm (H) and weighs 3.8 kg. It supports standard VESA 75 x 75 mm mounting, with mounting threads located on the heatsink side of the unit.
The system ships with NVIDIA JetPack 5.x pre-installed as a turnkey solution. It can be reflashed with a pre-built system image using a host computer connected via the USB Type-C recovery port, similar to the process used for the Jetson Orin NX Developer Kit.
The NRU-171V-PPC provides 6x waterproof GMSL2 FAKRA Z connectors, supporting multiple configurations: Configuration A - 6x AC-IMX390 (2MP@30FPS); Configuration B - 6x AC-ISX031 (3MP@30FPS); Configuration C - 4x AC-IMX490 (5MP@30FPS). These automotive-grade GMSL2 cameras feature IP67 waterproofing, 120dB HDR, auto white balance, and LED flicker mitigation, and come with pre-integrated drivers.
How-to Guides
- Disassemble the system enclosure to access the mini-PCIe slot.
- Insert the mini-PCIe card at a 45° angle into the slot.
- Secure the card with a screw.
- Clip the IPEX-to-SMA cable onto the module and secure the antenna to the panel (refer to the module's manual for the clip-on connection). Note: a customized enclosure panel with waterproof SMA antenna holes may be needed if installed after initial purchase.
- Reinstall the heatspreader and secure with screws.
- Reinstall the enclosure.
- Disassemble the system enclosure to locate the M.2 3042/3052 B-key slot and dual SIM slots.
- If your module requires a SIM card, push the SIM slot holder to the OPEN position, flip it open, and place the SIM in the slot.
- Flip the holder back over the SIM and push to the LOCK position.
- Insert the M.2 B-key module at a 45° angle and secure it with a screw, using the provided copper standoff (red arrow location for M.2 2242/3042, blue arrow location for M.2 3052).
- Clip the IPEX-to-SMA cable onto the module and secure the antenna to the side panel.
- Remove the protective film on the thermal pad, reinstall the heatspreader, and secure with screws.
- Reinstall the enclosure.
- Confirm the DC source is within 8V to 35V before connecting; supplying over 35V will damage the system.
- Connect the vehicle battery positive line (12V for sedan, 24V for bus/truck) to the V+ pin.
- Connect the vehicle battery negative/GND line to the GND pin.
- Connect the vehicle ACC (accessory) line to the IGN pin.
- Ensure the DC power source and IGN signal share the same ground.
- Connect via the M12 A-coded 5-pin connector (pins: 1=V+, 2=IGN, 3=GND, 4=V+, 5=GND).
- Locate the VESA 75 x 75 mm mounting threads on the heatsink side of the system.
- Attach a VESA-compliant mounting bracket using the threaded holes.
- Secure the system to a sturdy mounting location.
- Remove the screws securing the port cover to access the Type-C port.
- Plug in a USB Type-A/Type-C or Type-C to Type-C cable connecting the system to a host machine.
- Put the system into recovery mode and reflash using the pre-built system image following Neousys' reflash procedure.
- After reflashing, disconnect the Type-C cable.
- Secure the port cover in the specific orientation shown, using screws torqued to 2.7-3.3 kgf, to maintain IP66 waterproofing.
