Frequently Asked Questions
The Nuvo-9166GC provides 5x 2.5GbE ports (via Intel I226-IT/I225-IT) and 1x Gigabit Ethernet port (via Intel I219-LM), all with screw-lock connectors. Ports 3 through 6 can optionally support IEEE 802.3at PoE+ as a Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE), with a total power budget of 100W across those ports.
The system offers 1x USB 3.2 Gen2x2 (20Gbps) port in a screw-lock type-C connector, 4x USB 3.2 Gen2x1 (10Gbps) type-A ports, 2x USB 3.2 Gen1x1 (5Gbps) type-A ports, and 2x USB 2.0 ports. For video, it includes 1x VGA connector (up to 1920x1200), 1x DVI-D connector (up to 1920x1200), and 1x DisplayPort connector (up to 4096x2304). The system supports triple independent display output across these three ports.
The Nuvo-9166GC accepts 8 to 48V DC via a 3-pin pluggable terminal block (the UL-certified Nuvo-9166GC-UL variant uses a 24V DC input terminal block). The system tolerates 8V to 48V voltage fluctuation, but the minimum nominal voltage required depends on system configuration: 12V or above is recommended for CPU + L4 GPU configurations, and 24V or above is recommended when adding PoE+ PD load and/or a high-watt PCIe card.
With a 35W CPU and the NVIDIA L4 GPU, the system operates from -25°C to 60°C. With a 65W CPU configured to 35W TDP, the range is also -25°C to 60°C; if configured at full 65W TDP, the maximum operating temperature is limited to 50°C, and thermal throttling may occur under sustained full load. Storage temperature range is -40°C to 85°C. For sub-zero operation, a wide-temperature HDD or SSD is required.
The system supports up to 64GB of DDR5-4800 SDRAM across two SODIMM slots. Storage options include one M.2 2280 M-key socket (PCIe Gen4x4) for an NVMe SSD offering up to 7000 MB/s read/write speeds, and two internal 2.5" SATA ports (up to 15mm thickness drives) supporting RAID 0/1.
Neousys has tested the system with Microsoft Windows 10 LTSC 2021 (x64) and Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS, 22.04 LTS, 22.04.1 LTS, or other distributions with kernel version 5.15 or later. On Linux, you may need to manually compile and install drivers for the Intel graphics or I225/I226 Ethernet controllers if not already included in the kernel.
The Nuvo-9166GC measures 240 mm (W) x 225 mm (D) x 110.5 mm (H). It supports wall-mount installation (standard) using the included wall-mount brackets, or an optional damping bracket for additional vibration/shock resistance.
Yes. The system includes a full-size mini PCI Express socket with a SIM slot for 3G/4G modules, and a separate M.2 3042/3052 B-key socket with a SIM slot for 4G/5G modules. SMA antenna apertures are available on both the front and rear panels for connecting external antennas.
The Nuvo-9166GC has 2x PCIe x16 slots (8 lanes at Gen3) inside its patented Cassette module, designed to accommodate the NVIDIA L4 GPU (offering up to 30.3 TFLOPS FP32 / 485 TOPS INT8) plus one additional PCIe card. The Cassette module includes a segregated air tunnel to help cool the GPU.
How-to Guides
- Refer to the disassembly section to gain access to the internal M.2 slot (you may not need to fully dismantle the system).
- Insert the M.2 2280 module into the Gen4 x4 PCIe M-key slot at a 45-degree angle.
- Gently press the module down and secure it with an M2.5 P-head screw.
- Remove the thermal pad's protective film located at the bottom of the enclosure panel for the NVMe module.
- Reinstall the system enclosure and panel when done.
- Turn the system upside-down, remove the three tray screws, and lift the tray out of the system.
- Gently pry open the hard drive cage.
- Place the HDD/SSD thermal pad in the middle of the tray and remove its protective film (if not already attached).
- Place the HDD/SSD with labels facing up, aligning the SATA connector end to the side with two screw holes, and secure it with the supplied flathead screws (4 per drive).
- Connect the 22-pin SATA cable to the installed drive.
- Reinsert the tray, connector side first, and secure it with the three screws.
- Turn the system upside-down and remove the four screws at the bottom of the Cassette module.
- Gently wiggle and separate the Cassette module from the system.
- Remove the screws to open the Cassette cover.
- If replacing an existing card, remove the screws holding the graphics card's I/O panel and the three screws holding the dedicated tunnel duct, then remove the duct before lifting the card out of the PCIe slot.
- For first-time installation, remove the corresponding bezel cover, then insert and secure the graphics card into the PCIe slot, ensuring the bezel is inserted into the notch and the gold fingers are properly seated.
- Reinstall the duct to the end of the graphics card and secure it with screws.
- Place the Cassette module cover back on and secure with screws.
- Lower the Cassette module back onto the system enclosure and secure it with the mounting screws.
- Confirm the DC power source is within the system's accepted input range: 8 to 48V DC (24V DC for the Nuvo-9166GC-UL variant).
- Connect the DC power leads to the 3-pin pluggable terminal block using the screw clamping mechanism for a secure connection.
- If using an ignition-controlled (in-vehicle) setup, the same terminal block can also accept an ignition signal (IGN) input when an ignition control module is installed.
- Double-check the voltage before connecting power; supplying more than 48V will damage the system.
