  • 4x USB 3.2 Gen1 (5 Gbps) ports with screw-lock mechanism
  • 2x USB 2.0 ports
  • 1x VGA output (up to 1920 x 1200)
  • 1x DisplayPort (up to 4096 x 2304)
  • 1x software-programmable RS-232/422/485 port (COM1)
  • 3x 3-wire RS-232 ports (COM2/3/4) or 1x RS-422/485 port (COM2)
  • 1x 3.5mm 4-pole mic-in/speaker-out jack
  • 4-CH isolated DI and 4-CH isolated DO via DB15 connector
What are the power input requirements?

The system accepts 8-48V DC input via a 3-pin pluggable terminal block. The terminal block also supports an optional ignition power control signal and a remote on/off (always-on) connection.

What is the operating temperature range and what certifications does it have?

The Nuvo-9531-FT operates from -25°C to 60°C with either the 35W CPU or a 65W CPU configured in 35W TDP mode. Storage temperature is -40°C to 85°C. For sub-zero operation, a wide-temperature HDD or SSD is required. Note that this in-cabinet rating was validated with the system mounted on an aluminum panel (60 x 60 x 0.3 cm) to simulate in-cabinet conditions.

The system is also rated for MIL-STD-810H vibration (Method 514.8, Category 4) and shock (Method 516.8, Procedure I), and carries CE/FCC Class A EMC certification per EN 55032 & EN 55035.

What storage and memory expansion does the Nuvo-9531-FT support?

Storage options include one M.2 2280 M-key socket (PCIe Gen4 x4) for an NVMe SSD, and one hot-swappable 2.5" HDD/SSD tray for a 7mm drive. Memory is a single SO-DIMM slot supporting up to 32GB non-ECC DDR4-3200. There is also support for dTPM 2.0.

What wireless expansion slots are available?

The system has two full-size mini PCI Express sockets with internal SIM sockets, and one M.2 2230 E-key socket for WiFi5, WiFi6, or a Google Edge TPU module. Dedicated SMA antenna openings are provided on the chassis sides for external antennas.

What operating systems and drivers are supported?

Neousys has tested Microsoft Windows 10 LTSC 2021 (x64) and Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS, 22.04 LTS, 22.04.1 LTS, or other distributions with kernel version 5.15 or later. For Linux, users may need to manually compile and install drivers for the Intel graphics or I226 GbE controller if not already included in the kernel.

What are the dimensions, weight, and mounting options?

The Nuvo-9531-FT measures 212mm (W) x 165mm (D) x 45mm (H) and weighs 2.4 kg. It uses a flattop heatsink design intended for installation inside a metal cabinet, waterproof box, or explosion-proof case, where it makes direct thermal contact with the enclosure panel via four M4x0.7 screw holes. An optional wall-mount bracket kit (Wmkit-Nuvo-9531-FT) is also available.

Does the Nuvo-9531-FT support ignition power control?

Yes, ignition power control is an optional feature. It uses an MCU-based module that monitors the ignition signal and turns the system on/off according to a configurable power-on/power-off delay, with 16 selectable operation modes via a rotary switch. It also supports low-battery detection and a hard-off safety timeout.

How does the Nuvo-9531-FT differ from the standard Nuvo-9531?

The Nuvo-9531-FT uses a flattop heatsink instead of a fan, and is 45mm tall and 2.4 kg versus 63mm tall and 2.5 kg for the standard Nuvo-9531 (which supports an optional fan kit for 65W CPUs). The Nuvo-9531-FT's mounting is limited to an optional wall-mount bracket, while the Nuvo-9531 supports wall-mount or an optional DIN-rail mounting kit. Both share the same I/O, storage, memory, and expansion specifications.

How-to Guides

Install an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD
  1. Disassemble the system enclosure per the disassembly procedure to access the internal expansion slots (full disassembly may not be required).
  2. Locate the M.2 2280 slot on the motherboard.
  3. Insert the module at a 45 degree angle.
  4. Gently press the module down and secure it with an M3 P-head screw.
  5. If installing for the first time, remove the thermal pad protective film attached to the bottom of the hot-swappable tray enclosure.
  6. Reinstall the system enclosure or trapdoor when done.
Install a DDR4 SO-DIMM memory module
  1. Disassemble the system enclosure to gain access to the memory module slot (full disassembly may not be required).
  2. Locate the SO-DIMM memory module slot on the motherboard.
  3. Insert the gold fingers of the module into the slot at a 45 degree angle.
  4. Push down on the edge of the module until the side clips lock it into position.
  5. If installing for the first time, remove the thermal pad protective film attached to the bottom of the hot-swappable tray enclosure.
  6. Reinstall the system enclosure and panel when done.
Install a 2.5" hot-swappable HDD/SSD
  1. Pull the lever on the 2.5" external hot-swappable slot to swing open the cover.
  2. With the label side facing upwards, insert the SATA connector side of the 2.5" HDD/SSD into the slot first, and push firmly until fully seated.
  3. Push the lever into the slot until it snaps into position.
  4. Use the key provided in the accessory box to lock the external slot if desired.
Wire the ignition power control signal
  1. Connect the vehicle Battery+ line (12V for sedan, 24V for bus/truck) to the V+ pin on the 3-pin terminal block.
  2. Connect the vehicle Battery-/GND line to the GND pin.
  3. Connect the vehicle ACC line to the IGN pin.
  4. Ensure the DC power source and IGN signal share the same ground. The IGN input accepts 8-48VDC; do not exceed 48VDC.
  5. In Windows, set "When I press the power button" to "Shut down" so the OS performs a full shutdown recognized by the ignition control module.
  6. Use the rotary switch on the motherboard to select the desired operation mode (0-15) for power-on/power-off delay behavior.
Mount the Nuvo-9531-FT to a cabinet panel
  1. Do not remove the clear protective film on the flattop heatsink's thermal pad.
  2. Use the four M4x0.7 screw holes on the flattop heatsink to attach the unit to the metal panel of a water/weatherproof enclosure.
  3. Ensure the flattop heatsink area makes contact with the metallic surface, since the system relies on thermal conduction through this surface for heat dissipation.
  4. Optionally, install the wall-mount brackets by securing screws on the left and right sides of the enclosure (with the Ethernet port panel facing you) if wall mounting instead of direct cabinet-panel mounting.
