Frequently Asked Questions

What I/O ports does the POC-465AWP have?

The system provides the following ports, all via M12 connectors:

  • 2x 2.5GbE Ethernet ports (Intel® I226-IT) via M12 X-coded, 8-pin connector
  • 1x isolated RS-232 port (COM1) and 1x isolated RS-422/485 port (COM2) via M12 A-coded, 8-pin connector
  • 2x USB 2.0 ports via M12 A-coded, 8-pin connector
  • 1x VGA port supporting up to 1920x1200 resolution via M12 A-coded, 17-pin connector
What are the power input requirements?

The POC-465AWP accepts 8-35V DC input via an M12 A-coded, 5-pin connector, with an ignition power control input included on the same connector. Supplying voltage over 35V will damage the system.

What is the operating temperature range and are there any certifications?

The system operates from -25°C to 70°C and can be stored from -40°C to 85°C, with 10%~90% non-condensing humidity tolerance. It is rated IP66 for waterproof and dustproof protection, meets MIL-STD-810G vibration (Method 514.6, Category 4) and shock (Method 516.6, Procedure I, Table 516.6-II), and complies with CE/FCC Class A per EN 55032 & EN 55035.

Note: wide temperature operation may require a specific SSD.

For wide temperature use, a wide temperature/industrial M.2 M key SATA SSD module is required. Also, for full function use (with both mini-PCIe and M.2 modules installed), the operating temperature range may be constrained by those modules; contact Neousys Technology for details.

What storage and RAM expansion options are available?

The system supports up to 32 GB DDR4-3200 SDRAM via one SODIMM socket. For storage, it has one M.2 2280 M key socket that supports SATA-signal SSDs only (not NVMe). It also includes one full-size mini-PCIe socket with an internal micro SIM socket for wireless modules.

Does the POC-465AWP support wireless or cellular connectivity?

The system has a full-size mini-PCIe socket with an internal micro SIM socket, which can support WiFi/LTE or CAN bus modules. With a SIM card installed, the system can access the internet via a network provider's 5G/4G network. Note that due to the IP66 rating, SMA antenna installation requires a compatible enclosure panel; contact Neousys Technology or an authorized dealer for details.

What operating systems and drivers are supported?

The POC-465AWP supports Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 64-bit, Microsoft Windows 11 IoT Enterprise 22H2 64-bit, and Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS, 22.04 LTS, 22.04.1 LTS, or other Linux distributions with kernel version 5.15 or later. For Linux, users may need to manually compile and install drivers for the Intel graphics or I226 controller if not embedded in the kernel.

What are the dimensions, weight, and mounting options?

The POC-465AWP measures 106 mm (W) x 159.7 mm (D) x 79 mm (H) and weighs 1.45 kg. It supports optional wall mounting using the WMkit-POC465AWP wall-mount bracket accessory.

What is ignition power control and how does it work?

Ignition power control is an MCU-based feature for in-vehicle applications that monitors an ignition (IGN) signal and turns the system on or off based on predefined delays. It supports low-power standby (under 2mW when idle), battery-low protection (shuts down if input voltage stays below 11V on 12VDC or 22V on 24VDC systems for 60 seconds), guarded power-on/off delay, system hard-off (forced cut-off 10 minutes after power-off delay if the system fails to shut down normally), and smart off-delay modes for extended processing time after the vehicle stops.

How-to Guides

Install an M.2 2280 M Key SATA SSD
  1. Disassemble the system enclosure by turning it upside down, unfastening the bottom panel screws in order, and gently opening the panel.
  2. Locate the M.2 2280 M key slot.
  3. Remove the screws securing the M.2 module's heatsink and remove the heatsink.
  4. Insert the M.2 M key SSD at a 45 degree angle into the slot.
  5. Secure the module by fastening the retaining screw.
  6. Remove the protective film from the thermal pad and reinstall the heatsink.
  7. Make sure the O-ring is seated properly in the groove to maintain IP66 sealing.
  8. Reinstall the system enclosure, securing the panel screws in order using 5.5 Kgf-cm torque.
Install a mini-PCIe Module and SIM Card
  1. Disassemble the system enclosure.
  2. Locate the mini-PCIe slot and micro SIM card socket.
  3. Slide the SIM bracket to unlock it, then lift the bracket.
  4. Place the SIM card into the socket, position the bracket back over the card, and slide it to secure the SIM card.
  5. Insert the mini-PCIe module at a 45 degree angle into the slot and secure it with a screw.
  6. Reinstall the system enclosure.
Wire the Ignition Power Control (IGN) Signal
  1. Connect the vehicle's Battery+ line (12V for sedan, 24V for bus/truck) to the V+ pin of the M12 A-coded DC input connector.
  2. Connect the vehicle's Battery-/GND line to the GND pin.
  3. Connect the ACC line to the IGN pin (Pin 2 of the DC-in connector).
  4. Ensure the DC power source and IGN signal share the same ground. The IGN input accepts 8~35VDC; do not exceed 35VDC.
  5. In Windows, set "When I press the power button" to "Shut down" so the OS performs a full shutdown recognized by the ignition control module.
Install the Optional Wall Mount Bracket
  1. Remove the rubber stands at the bottom of the system by removing their screws.
  2. Secure the two wall mount brackets to the bottom of the system enclosure using the provided M4 screws.
Enable Wake-on-LAN
  1. Press F2 when the system boots to enter BIOS setup.
  2. Go to [Power] > [Wake On LAN] and set it to [Enabled].
  3. Press F10 to save changes and exit BIOS, then boot into the operating system.
  4. In Windows, open Network adapter settings, locate the Intel® I226 Gigabit Network Connection, and click Configure.
  5. On the Power Management tab, check "Wake on Magic Packet" (and "Wake on Magic Packet from power off state" if needed), then click OK.

POC-465AWP is a new segment of Neousys fanless computers featuring an IP66 rating based on Intel Elkhart Lake Atom. The acronym AWP stands for affordability, waterproof, and protection. In short, the POC-465AWP is designed to solve your everyday environmental challenges. With IP66 waterproof protection in a stainless steel and aluminum chassis, the air-tight system prevents internal PCBA corrosion in high salinity or humidity situations. Secondly, the hermetic enclosure can be deployed into grimy or dusty air-polluted environments such as a farm or mining site without being affected. The system also features -25°C to 70°C wide operating temperature capability and an efficient heat dissipation design to minimize thermal throttling.

Connection-wise, POC-465AWP comes with M12 connectors to ensure connection in demanding, shock, and vibration environments. The system has two 2.5G Ethernet ports, one isolated RS-232, and one isolated RS-422/485. The isolated design protects the motherboard from voltage spikes that may damage internal components. It also has a VGA, two USB2.0, an M.2 M key to support SATA SSD, and a mini-PCIe for wireless WiFi/ LTE, CAN bus, etc.

Combining IP66, M12 and great thermal design, POC-465AWP is reliable and highly tolerant to challenging conditions to fulfill versatile applications. Its ultra-compact size fits easily into confined spaces, and its waterproof capability makes it suitable for outdoor applications like wildfire detection, unmanned vehicle; or harsh environments like food / beverage manufacturing and pharmaceutical processing. The IP66 rating is an additional function that can enhance a product’s value and quality, and such is the case with Neousys’ POC-465AWP.
