Intel’s Amston Lake Atom x7000RE Packs Ruggedized Power In a Small Footprint

Intel has unveiled the Amston Lake Atom x7000RE, a cutting-edge AI processor series tailored specifically for edge computing needs. By doubling the core count and enhancing the graphics base frequency, Intel marks a significant leap forward from the previous x6000RE series. These chips promise advanced deep learning inference capabilities geared towards industrial applications, all within a 6W–12W BGA package.

The x7000RE series delivers superior performance while managing to reduce its footprint from the previous generation. These chips offer robust multitasking capabilities with up to eight E-cores and support for LPDDR5/DDR5/DDR4 memory, plus up to nine PCIe 3.0 lanes.

Engineered to withstand harsh conditions, Intel's new processors can endure extreme temperature changes, shocks, and vibrations – making them suitable for deployment indoor and outdoor in challenging and hard-to-reach locations. They come equipped with 2x SATA Gen 3.2 ports, up to 4x USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, a USB Type-C port, 2.5GbE Ethernet connectivity, as well as Intel Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 5G platform capabilities.

Tailored for embedded, industrial, and communication applications, the x7000RE series offers four SKUs optimized for extended temperature conditions. The x7211RE and x7213RE models feature 2 cores with relatively lower base frequencies, while the x7433RE model offers 4 cores, and the x7835RE model boasts 8 cores with higher base frequencies.

All four SKUs support GPU execution units of either 16 or 32, as well as Intel's Time Coordinated Computing and Time-Sensitive Networking GbE features. Additionally, they integrate Intel UHD Graphics, Intel DL Boost, Intel AVX2 with INT8 support, and are compatible with the OpenVINO toolkit.

Intel foresees these chips enabling seamless deployment of deep learning inference at the industrial edge and in smart city environments. They aim to enhance computer vision solutions with built-in AI capabilities and ecosystem-enabled camera modules, while also delivering efficient performance for latency-sensitive workloads in robotics and automation applications.
