Frequently Asked Questions

How many ports does the PCIe-PoE550X have and what controller do they use?

The PCIe-PoE550X has two 10 GbE ports, both driven by the Intel® X550-AT2 10 GigE controller. The card connects to the host system via a Gen3 PCI Express x4 interface.

What network standards and cabling does the PCIe-PoE550X support?

The card supports 10GBASE-T (IEEE 802.3an), NBASE-T (IEEE 802.3bz), and 1000BASE-T (IEEE 802.3ab). Cable requirements are:

  • 10GBASE-T: CAT 6a up to 100 meters, or CAT 6 up to 55 meters
  • 5 Gbps NBASE-T: CAT 6 up to 100 meters
  • 2.5 Gbps NBASE-T: CAT 5e up to 100 meters
Does the PCIe-PoE550X support Power over Ethernet?

Yes. It supports IEEE 802.3at PoE+ and can deliver up to 25.5W per port. PoE+ requires CAT 6a cable. Per-port PoE+ power on/off control is available via API.

What are the power requirements for the PCIe-PoE550X?

The card requires a maximum of 11.5W to operate its two 10 GbE ports, plus up to an additional 51W when powering PoE+ devices connected to the ports.

What is the operating temperature range of the PCIe-PoE550X?

The card is rated for operation from 0°C to 60°C with airflow.

What certifications does the PCIe-PoE550X have?

The card is CE Class A certified (per EN 55024/55032) and FCC Class A certified (per FCC Part 15, Subpart B). It also meets IEC 61000-4-x Class/Level 3 for electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS).

What are the physical dimensions of the PCIe-PoE550X?

The card measures 168 mm (W) x 111.2 mm (H).

What is the difference between the PCIe-PoE550X and the PCIe-10G550X?

Both are 2-port 10GbE network adapters using the same underlying design. The PCIe-PoE550X adds IEEE 802.3at PoE+ capability, while the PCIe-10G550X is the same 2-port 10GbE adapter without PoE+.

Does the PCIe-PoE550X support jumbo frames and NIC teaming?

Yes. The card supports 15.5 KB jumbo frames, NIC teaming, and IEEE 1588 time synchronization.

How-to Guides

Choose the correct cable for your desired network speed
  1. For 10GBASE-T operation, use CAT 6a cable for runs up to 100 meters, or CAT 6 cable for runs up to 55 meters.
  2. For 5 Gbps NBASE-T operation, use CAT 6 cable for runs up to 100 meters.
  3. For 2.5 Gbps NBASE-T operation, use CAT 5e cable for runs up to 100 meters.
  4. If you plan to use PoE+ (802.3at), use CAT 6a cable.
Power a PoE+ device from the PCIe-PoE550X
  1. Connect a CAT 6a cable from a card port to the PoE+ powered device (e.g. a camera or access point).
  2. Ensure the host system can supply the additional power budget: up to 51W total is required when powering PoE+ devices, on top of the 11.5W needed for standard 10 GbE operation.
  3. Use the per-port PoE+ power on/off control via API to enable power delivery to the connected device as needed, since each port can deliver up to 25.5W under IEEE 802.3at.

Introducing the world’s first 10Gbit Ethernet NIC incorporating IEEE 802.3at PoE+ capability, featuring Intel X550-AT2, Neousys Technology’s PCIe-PoE550X offers a cost-effective 10GBASE-T solution for growing 10GbE applications.

PCIe-PoE550X features 10GbE NIC incorporating Power over Ethernet (PoE+) capability. It features Neousys’ proven 802.3at PoE+ technology and refined power design to ensure optimal signal integrity over 10G PHY and maximal bandwidth. Combining 10GbE and PoE opens the door to new applications, such as high-performance WiFi access points and high-speed/ high-definition industrial cameras over a single Ethernet cable.

10GBASE-T leverages twisted-pair copper cable and RJ45 connector, dramatically reducing the deployment cost of a 10G network. PCIe-PoE550X provides 10Gbit/s connections over a distance of up to 100 meters with CAT 6a cable or 55 meters with CAT 6 cable. It also supports the upcoming NBASE-T standard and is backward compatible with the existing 1000BASE-T GbE network, so you can easily implement it into your current network infrastructure.
